Quarterback Quinten Dormady returns, needs further evaluation; David Moore remains starter vs. EMU
Quinten Dormady has officially returned to practice for the Central Michigan football team.
The senior graduate transfer suffered a knee injury in the Chippewas' second game against Wisconsin and was set to miss "a significant amount of time," according to coach Jim McElwain.
But Dormady is now getting back to full-health, and McElwain said he will be evaluated once again on Friday. Dormady took reps in practice this week, but it was current starting quarterback David Moore that remained with the first team.
Moore will start for the Chippewas this weekend against Eastern Michigan, a 3 p.m. Saturday game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, McElwain said.
"We were able to get Quinten Dormady back out this week," McElwain said. "He was able to take some reps and test that leg. Don't know. We'll talk at the end of tomorrow's practice to see where he's at, but David will be the starter. We'll go from there."
Moore has been playing under center in Dormady's place. Of the three games he's started, Moore has thrown for over 300 yards twice — 316 against Akron in his first start on Sept. 14 and 330 last week against Western Michigan. He also threw for 217 against Miami (Florida).
When McElwain was asked if Moore would lose the job to Dormady once the latter is fully healthy, the first-year coach didn't get into specifics.
"We have to see that when he is full-go," McElwain said. "We'll jump that bridge when we get there."
To this point, Dormady has gone 32 of 49 passing for 321 yards and three touchdowns against one interception. Moore is 79 of 140 passing for 864 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions.
CMU sits at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Mid-American Conference action as it plays at home for the first time since Sept. 14 on Saturday.
