Olena Mellinger, a Mount Pleasant resident and wife of a professor at CMU, searches for a new chair with her two children on Friday at the surplus sale inside the Auction Building. Mellinger has furnished parts of her house with the items she finds at the sales, including a couch for five dollars.

The public can purchase office equipment, home appliances and vehicles at the Central Michigan University Surplus Sale this Saturday.

The surplus sale, hosted by Skyora Auction Services, is an annual liquidation event where university departments can dispose of surplus and salvage equipment.

The auction will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at 275 W. Bellows St. in Mount Pleasant.

According to Skyora's website, buyers can pay for items with cash or check. Credit cards are not accepted. There will be two auction rings running simultaneously, so Skyora recommends bringing extra bidders.

Buyers are responsible for transporting their purchases, and items are expected to be taken by the end of the sale day. All items must be picked up by 5 p.m. Monday, June 24. The auction barn is not open on Sunday.

A list of auction items is available on Skyora's website.
