Students march during the Organization of Women Leaders' Slutwalk 2018 on CMU's campus on April 22.

SlutWalk, presented by the Organization of Women Leaders, will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 at Central Michigan University.

Participants will meet in front of the Bovee University Center, where the march will start.

Katie Couture, the OWL PR committee leader, said that the march route will go through campus and down fraternity and sorority neighborhoods and will end the walk at the CMU seal.

"After the walk there will be speakers and an open mic where participants can recite poetry or share stories," Couture said.

About 200 people have sent an RSVP to the Facebook event, but Couture said that the event could see between 200-400 people.

There are four main points to this march, Couture said.

  • Make the Title IX policy more understandable to students.
  • Post the Title IX policy in bathrooms and make it more well-known.
  • Have an all-staff training on how to handle reporting sexual assault.
  • Fighting for a gender and sexuality center in the UC.

"These survivors of sexual assault should be uplifted rather than torn down kind of by what society says like victim-blames, things like that," she said. "We just want to change the notion of those sort of things."

Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, April 12, there will be a sign making party in the Down Under Food Court.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story referred to this year's Slutwalk as the third annual event.
