As part of Central Michigan University's recognition of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month from March 15-April 15, a Polynesian dance group will perform at 7 p.m. on March 26 in the Bovee University Center Auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the Multicultural Academic Student Services.

Polynesian dance encompasses Tahitian, Tongan, Samoan, Fijian, Maori (of New Zealand) and Hawaiian styles. It is performed all over the world today and is still rooted in its ancient traditions.

“The event is designed to express and represent diverse cultures as part of the entire Asian Pacific Heritage Month,” said MASS graduate assistant Cyrus Stewart.

The event is free and open to the public. People can look on the MASS webpage for more information on this event and others involved in the Asian Pacific American Heritage month.

“This is the first Polynesian dance group on campus," Stewart said. "I am excited to see this new aspect of the Asian pacific culture.”
