The Nonprofit Leadership Student Alliance encourages Central Michigan University students to slip into their cleanest professional attire and polish their resumes for a day of professional networking.

NLSA and the CMU Career Development Center will host an internship fair Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Bovee University Center Rotunda Room.

The second-ever NLSA internship fair is designed to offer a space for students seeking careers in the nonprofit and government community.

The event is sponsored in part by the Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation and will feature professional tabling by HopeWell Ranch, the Humane Animal Treatment Society, the Literacy Center of West Michigan, the Michigan Nonprofit Association, the Michigan Crossroads Council of Boys Scouts of America and others.

"I think these fairs are important because textbooks and lectures can only provide so much," said Nick Modglin, the chairperson for the event. "The application of your course material in real life settings is what facilitates the educational experience."

Modglin, a Sault Ste. Marie second year masters student in public administration, said the organization's primary goal of the fair is to inspire and expand a pathway toward professional growth.

Port Sanilac sophomore Kira English, NLSA director of public relations, said the event also offers a place for students to express their passion and devotion to a variety of causes, such as economic development, public health and animal rights.

"We are always aspiring and working toward widening our reach and to someday be able to bring in employers from out-of-state and even the national level," English said. "But currently we do have a concentration on Michigan, and are bringing in groups from Detroit, Western Michigan and Northern Michigan."

English said the event recognizes the importance of giving back to the communities that a majority of CMU students reside in. She said this is an opportunity to be apart of the growth, well-being and flourishing of Michigan.
