The weekend ahead: Events and entertainment in Mount Pleasant
November is national veterans and military families month and various events this weekend are organized to recognize military veterans.
Thursday, Nov. 8
Gifts for the River, Environmental Entanglement: Adelka Polak, mixed media performing artist and Denise Whitebread-Fanning, installation artist will perform and provide their crafts from 1-3 p.m. in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Dog Wedding: The Humane Animal Treatment Society will host a wedding between two dogs from 6-8 p.m. at Pohlcat. A champagne toast will occur after the ceremony and cake will be provided. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at hatsweb.org or in person at the Humane Animal Treatment Society. All proceeds benefit the organization.
Shrek the Musical: Though the show is sold out, Central Michigan University's theatre department has provided a waitlist for interested parties. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7-9 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 10-11. Questions regarding the wait list can be directed to Ticket Central at 989-774-3045.
Friday, Nov. 9
Veteran's Day Ceremony: CMU will host this event from 2-3 p.m. in Plachta Auditorium inside Warriner Hall. The event is organized to pay tribute to those who served in the U.S. military during World War I. Cake and refreshments will be available following the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.
Saturday, Nov. 10
Shipshewana on the Road: This two-day event will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. Artisans, craft-makers, flea market dealers and retail business owners will provide their merchandise to the public. Admission for adults is $4 and children under 12 are admitted for free.
Ladies Night Out 2018: Women's Aid and Women's Initiative will benefit from this event, taking place from 4-11 p.m. downtown Mount Pleasant. Various businesses will provide sales and promotions for the event. A $5 donation gets one entry into a raffle for prizes from local businesses, as well.
Harvest Dinner: A Thanksgiving meal will be provided from 4:30-7 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church. Homemade gifts will be for sale and proceeds will go to support local missions. For more information, contact awood@jranck.com.
Sunday, Nov. 11
Guided Sunrise Hike for Veterans: Isabella Conservation District Education Coordinator Mike LeValley will guide this sunrise hike from 7-9 a.m. at Bundy Hill. The hike is designed to honor military veterans, but anyone is welcome to join. For more information, contact jon@cwc-mi.org.
