Just in time for midterm week, Central Michigan University’s Program Board hosted it’s once-a-semester Pinterest Party. Tens of students crowded in lines looping from the Bovee University Center Rotunda to Burrito Bowl in order to join friends in making a variety of crafts from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Rotunda.

Crafts included a leaf wreath, monogram painting, CMU pillow, customizable cup coasters and a fall leaf mason jar. In efforts to organize the mass amount of people, different colored tickets were issued to students depending on the with the craft they wanted to complete to ensure there would be enough supplies for everyone.

Small groups of people trickled to create their crafts, but the Pinterest Party provided more than a crafting experience.  In addition to the options available for students to make, Program Board also hosted a raffle for tickets to the upcoming Quinn XCII concert Oct. 26 at McGuirk Arena along with free refreshments.

Many students went to take a break from worrying about classes and spend time with friends.

“I love Pinterest and I think the event is a great thing to do with my roommates. (We got a lot) of roommate bonding out of this,” said Kalamazoo freshman Alexis Horn.

At the party, each craft had a different station. Beginners and experienced craft-makers were able to get in touch with their creative side regardless of skill and according to their preferences.

“I chose (to make) the monogram letter and pillow making. I chose the monogram letter because I like seeing my name around the room and seeing the letters of my name around the room and I think it would be a good decoration," said Detroit sophomore Taylor Perry. "I chose the pillow because I don’t have anything handmade that says CMU on it."

A select handful of Program Board volunteers made the event possible. Two-time volunteer, Detriot sophomore Nia Boone, said she chose to volunteer for the Pinterest Party because it matches her creative personality.

“I chose (to volunteer) because I like artsy stuff. I’m a photographer and I’ve done photography for over eight years, so the crafty side of me is like ‘Oh, this should be fun’ -- and helping set up is awesome," she said.
