June 26 suspicious situation in Island Park found not be a threat
Police have been updated that the situation in Island Park on June 26 was not a threat.
According to a press release from Public Information Officer VanDyke, on June 27, a Midland mother called the Mount Pleasant Police Department claiming her son and his friends were responsible for the situation.
Isabella County Central Dispatch received a phone call on June 26 about two males who were seen entering a bathroom in Island Park and appeared to be covered in blood. Mount Pleasant City Police responded to the call and when they arrived at the park, a citizen told them they had seen two individuals in the park, and one of them was carrying a rifle. The citizen said they were dress in camouflage. The police then evacuated both Island Park and Pickens Field. No suspects, victims or evidence of a crime could be found.
The mother said her 16-year-old son was part of a club that was filming a role-playing scenario in Island Park just prior to Central Dispatch receiving the call. She said she got a call from her son, who said he was coming home from Mount Pleasant and not to be shocked when he got there because he was covered in “fake blood.”
The mother said the group had at least one “prop gun” they were using in the video, according to the press release, and said her son was wearing camouflage clothing.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department assures the community that there is no threat to the public following this incident. The situation has been investigated and determined to be a miscommunication from a “role-playing club” to the proper authorities.
