Alumna directs local production of Addams Family musical
Fans of “The Addams Family” can see Morticia, Gomez and the rest of the gang this weekend in a musical production at the Broadway Theatre, 216 E. Broadway St.
Showtimes for "The Addams Family: A New Musical" are 7 p.m. for Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21, and a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Oct. 22.
The show is directed by Central Michigan University alumna Jessica Vinciguerra, who graduated in 2006 with a music degree. Her husband, Eric Vinciguerra, is the assistant director and has a master’s degree in music education from CMU.
The cast is made up of students from Mid-Michigan Community College, Mount Pleasant High School and Shepard High School, Jessica said. Her favorite song in the show is “Happy/Sad,” because it’s a heartwarming song between Wednesday and Gomez.
“I enjoy how (the production) is very personal,” Jessica said. “It shows different family dynamics and how, when children grow up and go away, it’s hard for the parents to adjust to that idea of them not being there. I think everybody can relate to that.”
Jessica has experience acting and directing at the Broadway but didn’t take acting classes at CMU. She said she loved performing in and watching the CMU musicals.
She continues to attend CMU’s theater productions, she said, because it gives her ideas for her own characters and helping others develop theirs.
Tickets for “The Addams Family” are $10 and can be purchased at Ric’s Food Center, Ace of Diamonds, friendsofthebroadway.org or at the door of the Broadway Theatre an hour before the show.
