Gymnastics looks to ride momentum into Ball State

The Central Michigan gymnastics team is coming off a win against Illinois State at home.

This week the Chippewas travel to Ball State.

“We were just on fire last week and that momentum and life is definitely going to help us this weekend.” said head Coach Jerry Reighard.

The team’s goal is straight forward this week, Reighard said.

“Beat Ball State,” he said. “There are some outside goals. We want to get a 49 on every event and that will give us a score that will really help us nationally.”

Reighard said the meet is important to the Chippewas because it is a Mid-American Conference bout.

“You can’t win a regular season MAC title with a loss to Ball State,” he said. “It's absolutely impossible. We have to come out of there with a win and the big score is the secondary goal.”

Reighard would go on to say that the team is not completely focused on just one event this week.

Last week the Chippewas had a season high during the floor routine and the vault.

"We have to put it in a position where the message is put out that this team is untouchable," he said.

The Chippewas are hoping for a win this week before taking on their MAC rivals in Kent State next weekend.

The meet is set to start Sunday at 1:00 pm in Muncie, Indiana.
