More than 2,200 students become CMU alumni at Fall 2016 graduation ceremonies


More than 2,200 students became Central Michigan University alumni today.

Three commencement ceremonies for the Fall 2016 graduates were held at 9 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the McGuirk Arena John G. Kulhavi Events Center.

Graduates at the first ceremony received a commencement address from Nick Krzyaniak, a general manager of Danone North America. 

Flint sophomore Stephan Wilson sang the National Anthem and led the crowd in the Alma Mater at the first ceremony. Five cadets took the oath of office for the U.S. Army.

Christine Holton Cashen, acclaimed author, addressed graduates who walked the stage at 1:30 p.m. on "experiencing life," and loving their future careers.

To finish the night off, Tonya Mathews, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center, addressed the 6 p.m. crowd of graduates before they embarked on life as CMU alumni.
