Police investigate sexual assault in Carey Hall
Central Michigan University Police are investigating a sexual assault reported by an 18-year-old student that occurred early Nov. 6 in a room in Carey Hall.
Lt. Cameron Wassman said a suspect has been identified. No arrest has been made. Police are looking into “unanswered questions,” for the ongoing investigation.
The incident appeared on Monday’s daily crime log as a first degree criminal sexual conduct complaint. No Central Alert was issued because officers identified the suspect.
Wassman said because the suspect has been identified, there is no further threat to campus safety.
“The accused subject is known. There is not a pattern of similar incidents,” Wassman said in an email. “These two factors are very important when it comes to safety.”
Wassman said the investigation may take weeks as police wait for results of a DNA test. He said police are also attempting to re-interview the complainant, who is no longer on campus.
