CMU baseball releases 2017 regular season schedule
The 2017 Central Michigan baseball schedule was released Tuesday, and the team will be in the warmth for the first month of its season.
The Chippewas will begin the season on the road at Eastern Tennessee State University for a three-game series from Feb. 17-19. A week later, they travel to Texas for a three-game series against Incarnate World. After that, they head to Port Charlotte and Orlando for six games against four different teams.
Their home-opener is March 14 against Marygrove.
The Chippewas will go to East Lansing on March 22 to play against the Michigan State Spartans. They will also head to Ann Arbor on March 29 and May 9 to take on Michigan. CMU lost to both MSU and UM last season on the road by scores of 4-1 and 9-7, respectively. MSU comes to Theunissen Stadium on May 19, while UM will travel to Mount Pleasant on May 10.
"It's very consistent with what we've done in the past," head coach Steve Jaksa told CMUChippewas.com. "Last year was probably top to bottom the most difficult schedule that I've been a part of. This one is similar to schedules that we have had in the past."
The annual Clash at Comerica will take place on April 18 and will feature a new opponent than in past seasons — Notre Dame.
CMU lost at Comerica Park last season to MSU 7-3 in 14th innings. CMU has played MSU in the Clash at Comerica every season the Chippewas have been a part of the series.
The Mid-American Conference season will begin at home on March 31, against Miami (Oh) and will end on May 20 against Ball State — also at home. CMU will play rival Western Michigan at home for a three-game series on April 14-16.
