The Central Michigan volleyball team picked up its second win of the season Sunday, defeating Morgan State, 3-1, in its final match of the Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational.

After falling to host Michigan State and No. 7 Florida on Saturday, the Chippewas bounced back against the Bears, leaving the tournament with some momentum.

CMU defeated Morgan State 25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 25-13. Junior outside hitters Jordan Bueter and Taylor Robertson led the team with 11 kills apiece. Junior defensive specialist Courtney Hiltibran led defensively with 16 digs.

In its first match against Florida, CMU fell 25-10, 25-17, 25-10. The Spartans defeated the Chippewas 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 in Saturday's nightcap.

Before hitting the road to East Lansing, head coach Mike Gawlik said facing opponents like Florida and MSU would be good practice for his team with hopes of qualifying for the MAC tournament.

“It’s more about the way we fight and not necessarily what the final score is,” he said. “These are the kinds of teams we’re going to have to play when we put ourselves in the position to qualify for NCAA tournament.”

The Chippewas will travel to Valparaiso, Indiana next weekend for the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival Tournament.

They will face South Dakota State and host Valparaiso Friday, Sept. 9 and Southeast Missouri Saturday, Sept. 10.
