Goalkeeper Knutson named MAC Defensive Player of the Week
After a 1-0 shutout against Oakland University over the weekend, goalkeeper Kristen Knutson has been named the Mid-American Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career.
According to mac-sports.com, Knutson earned the award because she "played a leading role in securing the 2016 Chippewas a place in program history. Playing in 90 minutes, she made two key saves in Central Michigan's 1-0 win over Oakland on Sunday, maintaining the Chippewas' perfect record, one of three Division I teams to remain unbeaten and untied."
To go with her unblemished record, Knutson leads the MAC in goals against average (0.39), save percentage (.900) and shutouts (four).
Senior defenseman Taylor Potts was also a nominee for MAC Offensive Player of the Week after her game-deciding goal against Oakland.
