Despite a strong comeback effort, the Central Michigan field hockey dropped its season opener 2-1 at Vermont Friday.

Offensive struggles in the first half dug a hole the Chippewas were ultimately unable to climb out of. Vermont out-shot CMU 11-3 in the first period, scoring two goals in the first twenty minutes.

In the second period, the Chippewa offense came back to life. CMU out-shot Vermont 10-5. Freshman Emily Barber was credited for the first goal of the season.

CMU sophomore goalkeeper Lily Amadio made her Collegiate debut with five saves in the first period and seven in total in 70 minutes of action.

CMU is back in action Saturday against Le Salle at 1 p.m.
