Mark Adkins, 44

A 44-year-old Lansing man was arraigned Jan. 25 in Isabella County Court on charges of assault with intent to murder after firing a gun at a police officer while fleeing.

Mark Adkins is also charged with fourth degree fleeing and eluding, carrying concealed, resisting and obstructing, operating while intoxicated on a second offense and operating with high blood alcohol content. His bond was set at $750,000. He is lodged at the Isabella County Sheriff's Department.

A Jan. 24 complaint about someone "driving erratically" turned into a chase with the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Around 11 a.m., Central Dispatch received a "be on the lookout" for the car, which was heading northbound on US 127. The driver got off at Pickard Street, where it was seen by an officer.

The officer then attempted to pull the driver over for not having a license plate. The driver at first pulled over, and then fled the scene, heading north on US 127. While traveling near Denver Road, the driver fired a gunshot out of his car. The officer continued to pursue the driver into Clare, where Clare County Sheriff's Department deputies put out spike strips to stop the car.

The suspect is a 44-year-old man from Lansing, who will be arraigned tomorrow. He was transported to McLaren Central-Michigan by the Isabella County Sheriff's Department.
