Senior second baseman Pat MacKenzie of the Central Michigan University baseball team has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.

The Royal Oak native led the high-powered Chippewa offense last week finishing with 11 hits, four runs batted in, nine runs scored and four walks.

In four games last week, MacKenzie hit .688 and tallied a slugging percentage of .938.

On Friday, MacKenzie was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring four runs and driving in a one run in CMU’s 16-6 win over Eastern Michigan University.

During the seventh and eighth innings on Saturday, MacKenzie drove in a total of three runs with two singles.

MacKenzie leads the Chippewas in batting average (.376), runs (35), hits (47), doubles (9), walks (35) and on-base percentage at .515.

He has stolen 15 bases on 18 attempts, which also leads all CMU players. He was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts last week.

He is the only Chippewa to start all 36 games this season.

CMU (24-12, 10-2 MAC) takes on Michigan State University at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday in Detroit at Comerica Park during the annual "Clash at Comerica."
