Women's basketball bounced from MAC Tournament by Western Michigan
A poor shooting performance bounced the Central Michigan University women’s basketball team out of the Mid-American Conference Tournament's second round, as the Chippewas fell to the Western Michigan University, 81-68 Wednesday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Chippewas hit 27 percent of their shots in the first half and finished the game shooting only 34 percent from the floor.
CMU started the game slowly shooting 4-of-22 from the field in the opening 13 minutes of the game. The scoring slump was capped off by an eight-minute scoreless run that enabled the Broncos to lead by as many as 15 points late in the first half.
Despite the team’s shooting struggles, CMU was led by the performances of three upperclassmen that scored 49 of the Chippewas’ 68 points. Senior Kerby Tamm shot 6-of-12 from beyond the arc and finished with 20 points.
Senior Lorreal Jones recorded a double-double, chipping in 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
The Chippewas' offensive effort was rounded out by junior Da’Jourie Turner, who finished with 15 points and nine assists.
CMU shot 15-of-20 from the free-throw line, with Turner hitting 9-of-11.
WMU senior Marquisha Harris scored 11 points in nine minutes of first half action. The Broncos scored 42 points in the paint as a team.
