Blue skies and warm weather meant a packed opening day for the Mount Pleasant Farmers' Market.
Located inside Island Park, the Thursday kick off featured more than 20 booths of farm grown and handmade goods, from artisan coffees to cotton candy.
With the rising popularity of organic products, many of the booths boasted their organic and GMO-free wares.
Gourmet Gardens sold free-range, GMO-free eggs, which was a main conduit of customer traffic.
“There is too much control on our food from corporations,” said Isaac, the owner of Gourmet Gardens, who watched his eggs disappear as patrons moved passed his booth.
Other booths include a company that sells all natural soaps in various scents, with such eclectic flavors as "beer."
“Hops are stress relievers? No wonder I like to drink beer,” said Andie Stark, of Pinckney, as she smelled a beer-scented bar of soap.
The Farmers' Market will be at Island Park on Thursday’s and at Mount Pleasant City Hall on Saturdays until Oct. 20.
