CMU associate athletic director Bob Heller named finalist for AD job at Tennessee-Martin
Central Michigan could soon be looking for another administrator in its athletics department.
Bob Heller, associate athletic director for development, has been named a finalist for the open athletic director job at the University of Tennessee-Martin, the school announced on Wednesday. A CMU spokesman confirmed the news on Thursday but did not make Heller immediately available for comment.
Heller, one of four finalists, will have an open forum at 2 p.m. on Wednesday on the UT-Martin campus. The other candidates include Richard Schoeberl, assistant AD at UT-Martin; Tim Van Alstine, athletic director at Western Illinois; and Julio Freire, senior associate athletic director at UNLV.
A former senior associate athletic director at Kent State, Heller joined the CMU athletics department in September 2010. His duties include procuring donations and fundraising for the athletics department, which has raised more than $1 million each year he has been at CMU.
Heller is the second athletics administrator to apply for a job elsewhere in the last year, with former deputy athletic director Derek van der Merwe taking the AD job at Austin Peay. The CMU athletics department has since restructured, spreading most of the job duties out among the 12-person administrative staff.
Athletics director Dave Heeke signed a new 4-year contract on Nov. 21 that will keep him at CMU through 2017.
