'Evil Dead' remake amps up the gore

The remake of the hit classic “Evil Dead,” which topped the charts last weekend, is a flawed but enjoyable movie that is heavy on gore.

Sam Raimi, director of the original "Evil Dead," and original producers Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell had a large hand in remaking the film.

The film follows Jane Levy, who plays a recovering drug addict, as she, her brother and some friends head out to a remote cabin in the woods.

The horror begins after the group of friends find a book in the basement of the cabin, which later unleashes demons into it.

The story unfolds when Levy is possessed by a demon and goes after her friends. The friends do not believe she is possessed but rather that her strange behavior is linked to her using drugs again.

What follows is what can be found in almost every other horror film: Blood, death and scences that make the audience jump from their seats.

Those in the audience will be holding their breath as the characters round every corner. They can expect to be held on the edge of their seats as demons are found under every staircase.

The film is largely based off the 1981 original film starring Campbell, one of the current producers for the remake.

The similarities between the original and the remake are obvious during the entire hour and a half. There are small details and quotes that stick out to the fans of the original, such as the necklace given to Levy during the movie.

However, the remake does have its differences from the original.

The characters are unique from the original characters. The writers do a great job to copy the characters over from the original film.

The 2013 "Evil Dead" is highly gory compared to the original, which detracts from the scariness at times.

The audience's reactions mainly come from the goriness, such as limbs being torn away from bodies and nails being pulled out of faces.

The film is rated R, and for good reason, as it is a raging bloodbath from beginning to end.

"Evil Dead" is the perfect film for people who enjoy scary or gory films.

The remake should not be seen only by those who enjoy the original. It is unique and offers new surprises separate from the original.

The "Evil Dead" remake was a great spin on the original take and will undoubtedly become an instant cult classic.
