Gerheiser prohibited from contact with victims after Deerfield stabbing
A Belding man charged with an 8-count felony for stabbing two CMU students at Deerfield Village apartments is still being held in medium-level security in Isabella County Jail.
Todd William Gerheiser, 22, has been lodged at the jail, 207 Court St., for nearly a month after being charged with eight felonies Sept. 16 after allegedly stabbing three individuals outside Deerfield building G, 3400 E. Deerfield Road.
According to Gerheiser’s jail records, obtained through the Isabella County prosecutor's office, magistrate Sandra Straus prohibited contact between Gerheiser and his three victims, two of which are students at Central Michigan University.
During his Sept. 16 medical screening report, Gerheiser said he is in great health, despite needing food and water. He had a bruised left eye and cut on his ahead.
Gerheiser refused medical treatment on the night of the stabbing and was not under the influence of alcohol, according to records obtained from the prosecutor's office. He is now prohibited from contact with any of the three victims.
The victims' names are exempt from disclosure and have not been released by Michigan State Police, Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduzewski said.
Mioduzewski said he didn’t know the specifics of Gerheiser’s case because it was a Michigan State Police case.
“Only thing we can say is that we’ve got him lodged here,” he said.
Responses to drug and alcohol usage with visual opinion responses were also exempt, as they would violate Gerheiser’s privacy.
As previously reported by Central Michigan Life, Gerheiser was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, punishable by life in prison; two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, punishable by 10 years in prison or $5,000; two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, punishable by four years in prison or $2,000; one count of carrying a concealed weapon, punishable by five years in prison or $2,500 and one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent punishable five years in prison or $2,500.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Mount Pleasant post were dispatched shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 16 to the scene of a large fight at the complex, 3400 E. Deerfield Road.
Upon arrival, a group of people ran toward troopers. One was a victim, covered in blood. He told the troopers he had been stabbed and pointed toward the suspect, who was also running toward officers, according to a release issued by MSP.
Troopers then ordered the suspect to the ground, where he was then secured and arrested around 1:15 a.m.
The investigation continued with the location of the weapon and interviews. The victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The Isabella County Prosecutor’s Office issued an 8-county felony warrant for Gerheiser. His bond is set for 10 percent of $800,000 or 10 percent cash.
In 2010, Gerheiser was charged in Ionia County with having stolen property valued at $1,000 or more, but less than $20,000, and was later discharged on a plea agreement.
Gerheiser is due in Isabella County Trial Court in November.
