Volleyball drops season opener to Auburn
The Central Michigan volleyball team dropped its regular season opener against Auburn in a roller coaster-like five-game match.
The Chippewas (0-1) opened up the match with a 25-17 win, but got a taste of its own medicine in game two, losing 25-16.
The Tigers (1-0) won a close game three to take a 2-1 match lead, but CMU didn’t fold. Much like its opening win, the team ran away with the fourth game 25-16.
The Chippewas found themselves in a quick 5-0 hole and couldn’t complete the comeback, losing the game 15-9.
Freshman middle blocker Angelique White was strong in her first outing for CMU. She led the team with kills and six blocks accounting for 18.5 of the team’s points.
White wasn’t the only Chippewa making an impact. Senior outside hitter Lindsey Dulude played a solid match as well, with 12 kills, 16 digs and two blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre also had 12 kills, while junior setter Kelly Maxwell had 46 assists. Junior libero Jenna Coates had 34 digs on the night.
CMU will pick back up tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. with host UW-Green Bay and finish the Green Bay Country Inn Suites Tournament with Drake at 5:30 p.m.
