Emily Girasole named field hockey MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Senior field hockey defender Emily Girasole was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday for the first time in her career.
Girasole and the Central Michigan defense held Villanova to five shots in the second half Sunday, allowing the Chippewas to tie the game 2-2, and force overtime.
The defense held its first opponent of the season, Radford, to six shots Saturday as CMU earned its first victory, 2-1.
Girasole appeared in 55 games her first three years of eligibility, tallying three career goals and a lone assist.
CMU will travel to Ann Arbor to play Delaware at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, followed by a matchup with No. 22 Maine at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
