Baseball team takes game one of doubleheader against Akron; game two at 3:30 p.m.
A sweep is possible this afternoon after the Central Michigan baseball team took the first game of the doubleheader against Akron.
CMU beat the Zips 7-1 using its fair share of home runs and quality pitching to tie the three-game series at one with the final game of the weekend at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Senior Tyler Hall provided the winning runs in the top of the third inning when he hit a two-run home run to centerfield one batter after freshman Patrick MacKenzie doubled down the right field line.
The runs were enough for junior starting pitcher Patrick Kaminska and senior Ryan Longstreth. Kaminska pitched six and 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and a run.
Longstreth preserved the win for Kaminska as he pitched the remaining two and 2/3 innings. Longstreth didn’t give up a hit while striking out four batters with two walks.
Junior Jordan Adams roughed up Akron freshman starting pitcher Pat Dyer's statistics using two swings of the bat to help separate CMU from Akron as the game progressed.
The centerfield area of Lee R. Jackson was filled with the Chippewas home run balls. Adams joined Hall in the fourth inning when he hit his first of two home runs off Dyer to left centerfield. He hit his second home run of the afternoon in the sixth inning.
CMU added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth as it cruised to victory.
Hall went 1-for-3 scoring a run with three RBIs. MacKenzie reached base with two hits in his two at-bats, scoring two runs and receiving an RBI with a walk.
The Chippewas can reach .500 in Mid-American Conference play with a victory at 3:30 p.m.
