Volleyball loses against Oakland
It’s usually tougher to win on the road than it is to win at home.
The Central Michigan volleyball team was reminded of that Friday night when it faced off against Oakland University in Rochester Hills.
The Golden Grizzles (3-2) came out strong and fought off another CMU (1-3) comeback in the opener of the Oakland Tournament.
The Chippewas were lead by freshman outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre with 22 kills, one assist and five digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Jenna Coats recorded 21 digs of her own, leading the team.
However, their efforts weren't good enough against OU on this particular night.
Junior outside hitter Megan Bray lead the Golden Grizzles with 15 kills. Senior middle hitter Allison Bell pitched in 14 kills of her own, while junior middle hitter Brittany Holbrook added 13. Sophomore setter Alissa Valentine recorded an astounding 49 assists.
CMU recorded 14 kills in games three and four, winning those games 25-18 and 25-21.
But all that did was even up the match series at two games apiece as OU won the opening two games 25-18 and 26-24. Oakland eventually came away with a 15-12 win in the decisive game.
CMU outscored the Golden Grizzlies in kills, assists and digs.
But at the end of the night Oakland, added another tally to the win column.
