CMU field hockey ends four-game losing streak

The Central Michigan field hockey team ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over Ball State.

“Our midfield is always going to be key to our success both offensively and defensively,” head coach Cristy Freese said. “Our midfield did a nice job of making some good interceptions and then feeding the ball up to the forwards.”

Ball State’s lone goal was the first of the game, but Freese said the Chippewas were not concerned because they had been in command until that point.

CMU’s confidence came to fruition when freshman Cayleigh Immelman scored two-straight goals in the next 16 minutes to take the lead.

“We needed to make a change in terms of everything, whether it be attitude, whether it be the way we played together.” Immelman said. “I think we came out to prove a point.”

CMU plays at Miami on Sunday. The Cardinals only victory was a 3-0 victory against the Redhawks.
