CMU baseball snaps losing streak with 3-1 win at Michigan State
The Central Michigan baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak Wednesday, beating Michigan State 3-1 at McLane Stadium in East Lansing.
Sophomore second baseman Jordan Dean led the way for the Chippewas, who had lost seven of their last eight, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
CMU (10-16) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after a throwing error on a ground ball to shortstop allowed Dean to score.
The Chippewas tacked on another run in the fifth with a two-out rally lead by senior Brendan Emmett, who walked, stole second base and scored on a Matt Faiman (2-for-5) single to right field.
They added a third run in the seventh off another MSU error - the Spartans had three in the game.
Junior left-hander Ryan Longstreth (1-3) recorded the win, allowing one run on five hits in 8 innings of work. Junior Harvey Martin got the save.
Andrew Waszak (1-2) took the loss, giving up one run on seven hits. The Spartans fall to 15-6 on the season.
CMU continues Mid-American Conference play this weekend as it travels to Ohio for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
