CMU sweeps Toledo for first MAC win


The Central Michigan women’s volleyball team was able to break the losing streak Saturday with a sweep of Toledo at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.

The Chippewas took command early in the match, hitting at more than a .300 hitting percentage the first two sets, winning 25-19, 25-22 and 27-25. With the win, they improve to 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

CMU head coach Erik Olson that it was crucial for his team to get ahead and finish the game strong.

“We played tough and we finished the game off,” Olson said. “And hopefully that will mean a lot to us.”

The play of setter Catherine Ludwig helped lead the Chippewas' offense, as the junior contributed 37 assists on the night.

Senior Libero Lisa Johnson also finished the night on a high note, ending with 17 digs. Senior Lauren Krupsky and junior Kaitlyn Schultz each added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Amber DeWeerdt had 13 kills for UT (5-10, 0-4 MAC).

CMU ended the night hitting .267 for the match, while limiting the Rockets to a .174 hitting percentage.

The team will open return to Finch Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Friday against Northern Illinois, the first of a four-game homestand.
