CMU loses to young WMU team
The Central Michigan women’s volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match Saturday, losing to rival Western Michigan 3-1 at Finch Fieldhouse.
The loss moves the Chippewas to 7-11 on the season and to 1-5 in the Mid-American Conference.
Things started out well for CMU, who jumped out to an early lead. The rest of the first set was a back-and-forth affair before the Broncos jumped out to a 24-21 advantage. The Chippewas responded with three consecutive points to tie the game before taking the lead and winning the set 27-25 on a WMU error.
The Chippewas were close to closing out the second set before the broncos pulled ahead and won 25-23. From there the broncos really controlled the match winning the next two sets 25-20 and 25-19 respectively.
“I think we played a below-average match tonight," said head coach Erik Olson. "(WMU) has a young team and we played even younger. We definitely have some things to work on."
Senior Lauren Krupsky led CMU with 15 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Delude had 13 kills while junior Kaitlyn Schultz added 12.
Senior Lisa Johnson led the Chippewas defensively with 26 digs.
CMU continues its four-game home stand next weekend when its hosts Bowling Green at 7 p.m. Friday at Finch Fieldhouse.
