CMU wins Youngstown State Invitational

One week ago, the Central Michigan women's volleyball team was reeling, having lost its first three games of the season.

But one good weekend has changed all of that, as CMU won the Youngstown State Invitational with a pair of sweeps on Saturday in Youngstown, Ohio.

After picking up a 3-1 win against Niagara on Friday, the Chippewas recorded 3-0 sweeps against Howard and host Youngstown State to win the tournament.

Senior Lauren Krupsky and junior Catherine Ludwig earned all-tournament team honors, with Krupsky named MVP for her 41 kills.

CMU dominated Howard in the first game Saturday, limiting the Bison to a -.145 hitting percentage and taking all three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-20. Krupsky had a game-high nine kills, while freshman Jenna Coates had seven digs.

The Chippewas put on a clinic in game three against YSU, posting a .427 hitting percentage and beating the Penguins 25-13, 25-14 and 25-17. Sophomore Val DeWeerd and Krupsky each had 14 kills in the match, while Coates posted 15 digs.

CMU travels to Milwaukee, Wisc., at 1 p.m. Friday to play Horizon League opponent Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
