Women's track to host quadrangular
The Central Michigan women's track and field team will compete in its second scored meet of the season Friday.
The Chippewas host a quadrangular meet against Mid-American Conference opponents Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Toledo at 5 p.m. at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track in the Indoor Athletic Complex.
After taking third place at the Michigan Intercollegiates, the Chippewas want to improve as the MAC Championships approach. Sophomore sprinter Jordan Dunn set two new personal records at the meet.
"We know that our competition is going to bring everything they have and we are going to use them to push ourselves to run stronger this weekend," said junior hurdler and high jumper Tanisha Johnson. "I talked to some of the girls, and I heard some have a little vengeance toward Bowling Green that should help push us."
Toledo is coming off a strong performance at the Tom Wright classic last weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Rockets finished in the top five in nearly every event in which they entered.
"This meet gives us a chance to see some MAC competition that we normally do not see until the MAC Championship," said junior middle distance runner and team captain Erin Dillon. "This is also good for us because it gives us another measure as to what we can do in the MAC come championship time."
Dillon said the team is looking forward to hosting its second of just three home meets this season.
"We are very excited to compete at home on Friday, we definitely want to try and take as many firsts as possible," Dillon said.
With the MAC Indoor Championships just three weeks away, many of the runners will be competing to tune up for the MAC meet.
"Last week we had a great meet as team," said Dillon. "There were some great performances and we are just looking to keep building on that to propel ourselves into the MAC meet in a couple of weeks."
This will be the first time the Chippewas will compete on their home track since they hosted the Chippewa Open on Jan. 9.
