Field hockey reveals incoming class
Field hockey coach Cristy Freese will add to her collection of international players with two more players from outside the United States.
Andrea Marais, from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and Brooke Sihota, from Richmond, British Columbia, highlight the class.
Sihota follows her sister Kim, a freshman at CMU.
"They will work well together, and Brooke already has a good idea of what to expect at this level through Kim," Freese said.
Marais joins junior Samantha Sandham and sophomore Kim Erasmus as CMU's third player from South Africa.Sandham is a Cape Town native, while Erasmus also is from Port Elizabeth.
"Andrea is a very skilled player who has a lot of experience because of the program she was a part of in South Africa," Freese said in a press release Saturday. "She has the potential to step in and play right away for us,"
Along with the three South Africans, Central's roster also includes two players from British Columbia.
A fourth player from Michigan will join the Chippewas in the form of Grosse Pointe native Danika Stone. The midfielder and defender was named first team all-state in 2007 and was coached by former CMU player Meg Lewis at Grosse Pointe South High School.
Also joining the Chippewas will be Paulina Lee, a midfielder and defender from Pittsford, N.Y., and Lauren Leed, a forward and midlfielder from Wyomissing, Pa.
"I think that most of this class can contribute as freshmen and will give our team needed depth in 2008," Freese said. "They are all great leaders at the high school level and should help our program reach the championship level."
