CMU advances in MAC tourney


The field hockey team beat Ball State 1-0 Thursday to advance to the Mid-American Conference semifinals today at noon.

The Chippewas found their offensive flow, generating 27 shots while limiting Ball State to 10. CMU also had 16 penalty corners, while the Cardinals were only able to muster four.

Sophomore midfielder Kim Erasmus had the lone goal of the match when her shot beat the Cardinals sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett with less than 22 minutes remaining to put the Chippewas ahead for good.

CMU will take on No. 16 Ohio University today in the semifinals. Ohio was 2-0 against the Chippewas in the regular season, winning the two games by a combined score of 7-0.

The Bobcats are led by senior forward Torrie Albini, who leads the conference with 42 points and 16 goals and is tied for the conference lead with CMU's Samantha Sandham with 10 assists apiece.

The winner of the Central-Ohio matchup will take on either Miami University or Kent State on Saturday.
