Time is running out for the soccer team to catch Western Michigan in the Mid-American Conference standings.

Central is five points behind the first place Broncos with three games remaining.

Two of its remaining games are at home against Bowling Green today and Toledo Sunday.

CMU is undefeated in its last 10 games at home.

“In the MAC you just never know who’s going to win or lose,” said coach Tony DiTucci. “First place would be nice, but it would be nice to just get in the top four.”

Western hosts Miami University today and plays at Ball State Sunday.

The top four teams in the conference host the first round games of the MAC Tournament Nov. 1.

CMU (6-7-2, 5-2-1 MAC) was first in the conference until losses to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan dropped it into a tie for third. The team only scored one goal against them.

“I’m absolutely sure our team will bounce back,” said senior Alicia Glover. “Just because we had a few losses last weekend, our main focus has not slipped away.”

It may not be easy bouncing back against the weekend opponents, though.

BGSU (10-6, 6-2 MAC) is on a five-game winning streak, with four shutouts in that span. The Falcons also lead the conference in goals (15) and it sit alone in second-place.

The Falcons eliminated the Chippewas in the 2004 MAC Tournament semi-finals.

“Wednesday morning we watched the video of Bowling Green taking the championship trophy and us taking runner-up,” said senior Michelle Noble. “We’ve been wearing orange practice jersey’s to remember Bowling Green. We’ve been looking forward to this game for almost a year now.”

Central has not beat Toledo (10-5, 5-3 MAC) since 2001.

UT senior Kelly Langenback leads the MAC with eight goals.

Glover and Noble will be playing their last regular season home games this weekend and hope to end the losing streak to the Rockets.

Noble came to the team as a walk-on her freshman year and eventually was named a co-captain.

“For Alicia and I, it’s hard realization that our careers are coming to an end, so we’ll do our best to make it memorable,” Noble said. “I am very proud of where I am presently, the ride I have taken and the coaches and teammates that have made this all possible.”
