Trottier and Reed named All-MAC

KENT, Ohio — Junior Kristy Reed and senior Tarah Trottier were named to the All-MAC field hockey team Friday.

It was the second consecutive year Reed was a first-team honoree.

“I am happy that I got the award because I thought I improved from last year,” Reed said. “I definitely would have given my spot to Ali (Foland) because I thought she had an amazing year, and I thought it was unfair she didn’t get recognized.”

Trottier led the MAC with 16 goals, and was second with 36 points. Her goal and point total is third best in CMU history. Trottier also was named to the All-MAC Tournament team after scoring four goals against Miami Friday.

“I think it is a great accomplishment for Tarah to be able to go from relative obscurity in the conference to first team,” said coach Cristy Freese. “She has been dominant on our team and in the conference this year, and it is nice to see her rewarded.”

Junior Amy Kauffman was a second team All-MAC selection as well.

Kauffman was the backbone of CMU’s defense, which allowed 18 goals in 11 MAC games. Her 14 defensive saves is first in the NCAA. Kauffman was also named to the All-MAC Tournament Team.

“I think it is a really great honor, but I think our team got shafted on the awards,” Kauffman said. “The awards I did receive had a lot to do with my team, because they are the ones on the field that help me.”

Reed said awards do not reflect the talent of the team.

“I think there is a lot of unsung heroes on this team,” she said. “I would never want to go against Amy Kauffman because I think she is the best sweeper in the MAC, if not the nation.”
