Seymour will miss a month

Another member of the offensive backfield is injured, as freshman halfback Jerry Seymour will miss the next four games with a leg injury.

Seymour is the MAC’s third-leading rusher, with 384 yards and five touchdowns.

While his production will be missed, the Chippewas will benefit from depth at the position. CMU leads the MAC in rushing offense, averaging 207.5 yards a game.

“We’re fortunate to have depth there,” coach Mike DeBord said. “Does Jerry Seymour bring something to the field that others don’t have? Yes. But we have other guys who can step up and do it.”

The main benefactor of the added carries is senior Terrence Jackson, who is averaging 86.7 yards a game.

Senior Kenan Lawhorne, freshman Isaac Brown and sophomore Spencer Lewis will see action in Seymour’s absence.

“You might lose some things with losing Seymour, but you gain some things with other guys,” DeBord said.

NOTES: DeBord announced Monday junior quarterback Jeff Perry is out for the season with a knee injury. . . .

Senior defensive tackle Matt Wohlgemuth has not practiced since the Ball State game, but will likely start against BGSU. . . .

Junior Jon Nelson and freshman Mike Ogle are close to returning from injuries. Sophomore Jason Smith will start at the strong side, senior Eddie Hillery will start at the weak side and junior Anthony Tyus, Jr. will start in the middle.
