Second opinion sought for Perry

The first indications on the severity of junior quarterback Jeff Perry’s knee are not good for the football team.
An MRI conducted Wednesday revealed the injury suffered in last week’s Ball State game is worse than originally thought. A second opinion with a radiologist was conducted Thursday night.
“The first prognosis is that it doesn’t look great,” said coach Mike DeBord. “But, we’re going to hold out on making an official statement until we get the results from the radiologist.”
Perry’s past knee problems forced him to miss the last two seasons. The Saturday injury, however, came to a different knee than the previous one.
“He’s obviously dissapointed with the results,” DeBord said. “But, that is the kind of thing that you sometimes have to deal with.”
Perry has thrown for 646 yards and five touchdowns for a 119.8 quarterback rating in four games.
If Perry cannot play in next Saturday’s game at Bowling Green, then senior Derrick Vickers will step in. Vickers has started for three seasons, and owns a 7-16 career record.
DeBord said senior Grant Arnoldink and sophomore Kent Smith will battle for the backup position.
NOTES: The team began preparing for the BGSU game Thursday, but will have Friday and Saturday off before resuming practice Sunday.
“It is much needed,” DeBord said. “We are a banged up team right now.”
