The CMU men's cross country team is the No. 8-ranked team in the nation.

In the first coaches poll of the season, the Chippewas landed in the top 10. It is the highest ranking to start a season for the Maroon and Gold.

“It’s a great honor to be ranked as high as we are,” Head Coach Craig Fuller said. “It's the coaches voting so it’s awesome to think that the pollsters believe that we are that good. Now, it’s up to our team to go out there every week and prove that we are that good.”

CMU, picked in the preseason coaches poll to win the Mid-American Conference, is the highest ranked MAC squad. Eastern Michigan checks in at 10th.

The Chippewas are in arguably one of the top regions in the nation. The Great Lakes Region has five squads ranked in the top 10 and seven in the top 20.

The men’s squad will take this week off before competing in East Lansing for the Michigan State Open Friday.
