Jaksa completes ‘04 coaching staff
CMU baseball coach Steve Jaksa complemented his coaching staff for the 2004 season with the hiring of Brad Stromdahl as an assistant.
Stromdahl comes to Central from Marshall, where he spent one season as a volunteer assistant. He was the head coach this past summer of the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League.
“Brad is a fine addition to out staff,” Jaksa said. “He has head coaching experience and has excellent knowledge of hitting.”
A catcher during his collegiate days at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., and Southwest State University in Marshall, Minn., Brad will work with the infielders as well as the hitters.
Stromdahl graduated from Southwest State in 2002 with a degree in business management and earned his masters in education from Southwest State in 2003.
Chippewas add five
Jeremy Crum of Kellogg Community College, Sean Hoorelbeke of Hartland, Derrick Walker of Detroit, Ryan Peel of Ottawa, Ontario and Kurtis Wells of Grand Rapids Community College will join the Chippewas this fall.
Jaksa expects both of the junior college transfers to come in and make their presence felt immediately.
“We have high expectations of Wells,” Jaksa said. “We feel he can come in and contribute right away. He had a breakout year last season.”
Wells was an All-American at GRCC last season, helping them to a national title.
Crum played both outfield and infield at Kellogg, and his speed makes him a threat on the base paths.
Hoorelbeke played infield in high school and hit 15 home runs his senior season. Walker is a right-handed pitcher from Martin Luther King High School in Detroit who was heavily recruited.
Peel is a 175-pound infielder who played the past two seasons at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y.
