Softball looks to gain position in MAC

The Chippewas (10-5 MAC) are looking to solidify their place, hosting a three-game series with Eastern Michigan.

A single game starts at 3:30 p.m. today, with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Eastern is 4-11 in MAC play and is 6-30 overall. Liz Flack leads the way with a .294 batting average. Pitcher Nikki Denman is 4-10 with a4.57 ERA.

CMU is coming off from an 2-1 loss at Michigan.

Two errors in the first inning and a Jenni Rasmussen wild pitch lead to an unearned run for the Wolverines. A leadoff double in the fourth inning and another wild pitch gave CMU a 2-0 deficit.

The loss drops the team to 21-14 overall.

The Chippewas were able to get a run off U-M hurler Marissa Young, as freshman Brittany Decker hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning.

The National Pitcher of the Week allowed just four hits while striking out seven.

Rasmussen (6-7) took the loss, giving up one earned run in three innings.

Junior Amber Puchalski came in relief, giving up just one hit.

Junior Karly McCormack added two hits.

Senior Michelle Brander leads the team with a .410 batting average, six home runs and 24 RBI.

Puchalski (10-5) posts a 1.17 ERA.
