Jocks rock Warriner Sunday with comedy

The Ninth Annual Jock Rock marked the third consecutive victory for the duo, and the fifth win in nine years.
Admission to the Jock Rock was $3, and all of the proceeds are donated to the PEAK program.
Every year the Student-Athlete Advisory Board chooses a cause to donate the proceeds to, said Master of Ceremonies Stan Shingles, University Recreation director. This year they chose the PEAK program, which is an after-school program for the Mount Pleasant Public Schools.
The mens track and cross country performed a Superhero act, in which they dressed up as various superheroes including Batman, Robin and Superman, and interacted with the audience. In addition to being named the winners of the Jock Rock, the Superhero act was voted the best act of the night.
Each team is allotted eight minutes, and are judged on creativity, lip synching, originality, and the time allotment, Shingles said.
The womens track and cross country teams were named the second place winners and the womens basketball team took third.
The performance of the womens track and cross country team featured a parody of a coaches meeting with Gov. Jennifer Granholm and a referee chasing a streaking fan.
The womens basketball team conducted an Austin Powers parody, and also made United States flags out of their shirts and spelled out USA.
Other teams that participated included wrestling, football, gymnastics, baseball, field hockey, softball, volleyball, soccer, and mens basketball.
The mens basketball team performed a rap song titled, MAC Champs with references to its recent NCAA tournament run in Salt Lake City.
Its nice to see all these student athletes a little bit out of character, Shingles said. Wed like to thank all of the student athletes for putting this program.
Several of the teams paid tribute to American troops overseas and included USA signs in their acts.
