CM Life Athletes of the Year


Greg Burghardt

Chris Kaman

Junior center Chris Kaman is the biggest athlete on campus. He may also be the best. Kaman dominated the Mid- American Conference this season, helping the Chippewas to a MAC Title and NCAA Tournament bid. He is the MAC Player of the Year and averaged 22.4 points, 12 rebounds and 3.2 blocks.

Janel Spero

It is hard to argue with success, and no CMU team experienced new found success like the field hockey team. Spero was a rock in net, leading the squad to its first ever MAC regular season title and a No.17 national ranking. Spero was MAC Tri-Player of the Year as well as a member of the Division I West Regional First Team. She led the conference in minutes, goals against and save percentage. Spero recorded five shutouts on the season.

Rookies of the Year

Erin Kuhl

The All-Freshman point guard led the team points, assists and three-point percentage.

Ali McCrite

In the inagural year of the libero position, she led the team in digs.

Coaches of the Year

Jay Smith

The MAC Coach of the Year, Jay Smith led his team to its second conference title in three years and a NCAA Tourney bid.

Cristy Freese

Cristy Freese Led the field hockey team to its best season ever, winning the MAC title and earning coach of the year for the third time.
