Briefs: CB France signs with CFL


Former CMU football standout Tedaro France signed a contract to play in the Canadian Football League next season.

The cornerback signed a free agent contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. France completed his career in 2001. His 11 career interceptions rank him No.7 on CMU’s all-time list. France also was named to the All-MAC squad in both 1998 and 2001 and had 140 tackles in his career.

Saskatchewan opens its season June 19 against the Toronto Argonauts.

82 Chippewas honored for academic excellence
The CMU athletics department honored its outstanding student-athletes at the annual Academic Excellence Banquet on Monday at the University Center.

A total of 82 student-athletes with a grade-point average of 3.5 or better were honored.

Central has won the MAC Academic Achievement Award for the highest cumulative grade-point average by a MAC school five of the past six years.
