Other CMU teams deserve recognition
Im writing in response to a comment I read in Fridays paper Celebrations Light Up Town. In this article, a person was quoted as saying, Its nice to see a CMU team go somewhere. I very well could have misinterpreted what she meant by that. Im certainly not trying to pick apart this person because of one comment, but I also realize that this is a common attitude among many CMU students.
While the basketball team was out in Utah, did you know that 7 of our 10 wrestlers were at Nationals? Jason Mester brought home All-American honors with a fifth-place finish. The wrestling team also won their fifth consecutive MAC title this year.
The softball team is going for their third consecutive MAC title this year. Last year, Amber Puchalski and Chad Pleiness (baseball) were ranked third and first in the nation, respectively, in strikeouts.
This year, the mens cross country team beat national powerhouse Eastern Michigan at the MAC championships. The next week, they placed ninth at the national meet, while Jake Flynn and Tristen Perlberg came home with All-American honors.
The gymnastics team just finished their MAC regular season with a perfect record, and is going into the MAC meet looking to win their ninth championship. They have scored four perfect 10s this year.
Last year, the womens track team won the MAC championship. They had two All-Americans, and were ranked eleventh in the nation in power rankings.
The field hockey team also won the MAC championship this year. Shaleene Glombowski (volleyball) was also named National Player of the Week this year.
This letter is not to tear down the basketball team in any way, but rather to show students how many other CMU teams they have to be proud of because they all went somewhere too.
