Korver leads Jays into familiar land

The Missouri Valley Conference Champion Bluejays were in the field each of the last four seasons.

Creighton defeated Florida in the first-round last year in double overtime.

Senior All-American candidate Kyle Korver leads this year’s Bluejays. Korver averages 17.7 points per game and shoots 48 percent on three-point attempts and 91 percent from the free-throw line.

Head Coach Jay Smith offered an approach that no one has thought of this season., when asked how he plans to stop the six-foot-six-inch Korver’s scoring,

“I’m hoping to pull a Nancy Kerrigan and hit his knees,” Smith jokingly said.

Speaking on a more serious note, Smith said stopping Creighton may depend on stopping its leader. Senior guard Larry House played significant minutes in last season’s tournament victory.

Korver will be the focal point of the CMU defense. The defense will use everyone from power forward Mike Manciel to point guard T.J. Meerman to defend the two-time MVC Player of the Year.
