The junior is the nation’s No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 141-pound weight class according to InterMat. He also is ranked seventh by the Amateur Wrestling News and sixth by the Wrestling Mall. Mester is 13-0 on the season and is the only undefeated wrestler in the his class.

The No. 14 Chippewas had their undefeated streak snapped with two losses at the National Duals last weekend. The team lost to No.2 Iowa 28-8 and fell 20-12 to No. 17 Boise State.

The 7-2 Chippewas are participating in their last meet before starting the conference Jan. 31 at Northern Illinois.

“This is a good meet because it allows us to get some competition and a good hard week of training leading up to it,” said Head Coach Tom Borrelli.

Findlay is ranked No.17 in NCAA’s Division II. The Roughnecks spent last weekend at the Division II National Duals. One of their losses was to the eventual champion Nebraska-Omaha.

Findlay features three All-Americans including defending Division II National Champion Waylon Lowe, who competes in the 149-pound class. He will match up with No. 12 junior Ty Morgan.

Joey Simcoe (133 pounds) and 165-pounder Lucas Mackesy also are returning All-Americans. Mackesy will face No. 11 junior Kevin Carr.

These teams met last year at the Hampton Inn “Duels,” with CMU winning 38-6.

“They have some very quality wrestlers especially in those three (returning All-Americans),” Borrelli said.

The meet will begin at 2 p.m. and takes place at Findlay’s Croy Gymnasium.

CMU’s second string and redshirted wrestlers will compete in an open meet at Cleveland State Saturday.
