Women host Ball State

The women’s basketball team will face a tough test at home tonight when it hosts defending MAC West Champion Ball State.

“We have confidence to come out hard, and finish hard,” said senior Desiree Eidson. “Against Ball State, we have momentum coming off this win (over Akron).”

Ball State comes to town with an 8-4 overall record, and a 2-0 mark in the MAC. The Chippewas will have to keep a close eye on Ball State senior Tamara Bowie. The Lansing native was selected as the MAC Co-Player of the Week for her play last week in two BSU victories. Bowie averaged 21.5 points and eight rebounds in the wins. It was the 10th time in Bowie’s career that she received the award, third this season.

The Cardinals are coming off a 62-47 win at Buffalo Saturday. Bowie led the charge with her 12th straight double-digit scoring effort of the season with 20 points. BSU Head Coach Tracy Roller tabbed the game as a “perfect team game.”

The team already is close to last season’s 10-18 mark, and needs only one win to tie last season’s conference win total of last season. Head Coach Eileen Kleinfelter hopes the team doesn’t have the collapse that they had last season.

“I was brought here to rebuild this program, and we’re not going to do it overnight. We’re not going to build Rome in a day, and I want people to recognize that we’ve got some young people in there doing some very good things, and it’s going to take some patience,” she said.

The Chippewas are 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
