The No. 14 Chippewas received a less than favorable draw in the tournament, and dropped matches to No. 2 Iowa and No 19. Boise State.

Central did not fare much better than last year against Iowa, dropping a 28-8 contest after losing 36-6 last season at Duals. The Chippewas lost in the consolation bracket to the Broncos 20-12.

Despite the team’s losses, CMU’s two top-ranked wrestlers were 2-0 on the day. Junior 141-pouder Jason Mester, ranked 4th in the country, and No. 6 Kevin Carr at 165 were able to win both of their matches for Central. Both of their wins were major decisions against the Hawkeyes.

Mester defeated Iowa’s Luke Moffitt 11-1 while Carr won 12-2 over Iowa’s Jason D’Agata.

Both of them also posted victories over BSU, along with 177-pound sophomore Mitch Hancock and 184-pound redshirt freshman Alex Lammers.

With the losses, CMU drops to 7-2 in all non-conference matches.

No. 1 Oklahoma State defeated Oklahoma in the nationally prestigious meet, in which all of the nation’s top ten teams participated. Iowa and Ohio State were the tournament’s semifinalists.
